Privacy Policy
Effective October 8, 2026 · Applies to runbookbuilder.com
The short version
- We collect what you type into the download form, and the basic records any website keeps.
- The Builder and the runbooks you make with it collect nothing. They can't connect to the network, so your scripts and settings never reach us.
- We don't sell your information, and we only email you about new versions if you ask us to.
Who we are
runbookbuilder.com is run by Thinware, Inc. ("Thinware", "we", "us"). Questions about this policy go to privacy@thinware.net.
What we collect
When you register to download
- Your name and email address.
- Anything you choose to add: your organization, how you'll use the Builder, and how you heard about us.
- Whether you asked for release emails, and when you agreed to this policy.
- A one-time verification code, which we send to your email address to confirm it's yours.
- Your IP address, kept with the registration to stop abuse.
When you download
The date and time, the version you downloaded, and your IP address. We use these to deliver the file, count downloads and stop abuse.
When you visit the site
Our web server keeps standard logs: IP address, browser type, pages requested and the time of each request. The site sets one cookie, which carries your registration through the verification step and is deleted when you close your browser. We use no analytics service. Page counts come from the server logs.
What we never see
The Builder runs from your own disk. The runbooks you write, the interactive runbooks it builds, the values operators type into them, their Done marks and any progress files they save all stay on the computers where they're used. The Builder and every interactive runbook block network requests, so none of it can be sent to us or anyone else.
How we use it
- To confirm your email address and give you the download.
- To email you when a new version is released, if you asked us to.
- To understand who uses the Builder, so we can decide what to improve.
- To keep the site running and protect it from abuse.
- To meet legal obligations.
Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent your information. We share it only with:
- Service providers that run parts of the site for us: GoDaddy, which hosts the site, and Microsoft 365, which sends our email. They may use it only to provide those services.
- Authorities, when the law requires it, or when we need to protect our rights or the safety of others.
- A buyer or successor, if Thinware or this product is ever sold or merged. This policy would still apply to what we collected.
How long we keep it
Verification codes expire after 15 minutes and are deleted by a daily job. A registration that was never verified is deleted after 90 days. We keep verified registrations until you ask us to delete them, which you can do at any time. Server logs are kept for 90 days.
Your choices
- Release emails: every email has an unsubscribe link, and it works the first time.
- Access, correction and deletion: email privacy@thinware.net and we'll respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under laws such as the GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act. We honor those requests too.
Security
The site is served only over HTTPS, and access to registration data is limited to the people at Thinware who need it. No system is perfectly secure, but we collect as little as we can, which limits what could ever be exposed.
Where your data is stored
Thinware is based in the United States, and the information we collect is stored and processed there. If you register from outside the United States, your information is transferred to the United States.
Children
The Builder is a tool for IT professionals. The site isn't meant for children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change matters to how we use your information, we'll also email registered users.
